ARINC Adds Way-Finding and Bar Code Reading to Its microFIDS™ Flight Information Solution for Airport Concessionaires
In-Room TV Display is Added for Hotel Users
December 19, 2011
Annapolis—ARINC Incorporated has added three major new capabilities to its compact, wireless microFIDS™ flight information display system designed for use where conventional FIDS systems are too large and costly.
The latest microFIDS advance, Way-Finding, guides travelers to a range of facilities inside airports, hotels, and convention centers. “Travelers and guests can clearly see how to find their airport gates or hotel conference rooms, saving time and frustration,” said Chris Forrest, Managing Director, ARINC Managed Services. “microFIDS Way-Finding is an outstanding way for airports and the hospitality industry to better serve their customers.”
Another new option, Smartphone Scanning, automatically reads the 2D boarding pass bar codes on smartphones and paper boarding passes, quickly delivering the desired flight information. “Providing flight information wherever it’s needed is now easy and practical with microFIDS. It simply creates a better experience for travelers,” noted Forrest.
Another new microFIDS feature, in-room TV display, delivers flight information directly to guest room TVs via the hotel video system. “In-room display of flight information is a major coup for hotels and guests,” continued Forrest. “Guests can see when flights are delayed without even leaving their rooms, avoiding a lot of hassle and stress.”
Hotels are discovering microFIDS can enhance bookings, since guests may decide to stay at the hotel if flights are cancelled, or linger when flights are delayed. The microFIDS system also displays third-party ads and in-house promotions for hotel food, beverage and spa services—one more path to increased incremental revenue.
ARINC microFIDS includes a user-friendly management tool, iSmart™ , that allows facility personnel to easily configure arrival, departure, and airport screens, as well as manage paid advertising and the other microFIDS features such as 2D bar code scanning. As a wireless system, ARINC microFIDS requires only a power cord and wireless network access for operation. It uses standard off-the-shelf (COTS) display screens, making flight information more cost-effective with minimum hardware and installation costs.
“We made it a priority for microFIDS to be hassle-free and easy for non-technical personnel to operate,” adds Forrest. “Everything is wireless and web-based. The iSmart management tool gives users complete control over what is displayed and when. And behind the scenes, ARINC handles all the system maintenance. That’s a balance of control and support our customers really value.”
