Is Your Service Provider Certified?

Professional IT certifications like PMP, CAPM, CCNA, ITIL and others are vitally important to airports that are currently outsourcing or thinking about outsourcing any of their operations, maintenance and staffing functions to a service provider. Why? Because an airport using a service provider which encourages its employees to achieve these certifications receives a number of critical benefits. Many of these certifications are designed to provide a framework for the performance of professional duties and responsibilities that is consistent across the industry. Certifications seek to create an organization that employs industry best practices in everything they do. And, they ensure that employees remain at the forefront of industry knowledge.

Think about the demanding Project Management Professional (PMP) certification as an example. It requires individuals who become certified to understand 14 different project management processes—all of which have specific inputs, outputs and tools. These processes are related to the five basic phases of a project: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control—and close. Other certifications, such as ITIL, are designed to provide individuals with the leading information and best practices on areas such as core processes for Service Support and Service Delivery as well as Service Desk function and Security Management. Wouldn't it be advantageous if the people supporting your organization had certifications and training like this?

At AMS, we take these certifications seriously. We have a wide variety of employees – from Site Technicians to Program Managers – who have achieved industry certifications. In fact, over 50% of our Project Managers are PMP certified, and the entire AMS management team is ITIL certified. We believe these certifications demonstrate that our employees are committed to delivering superior performance. As AMS Vice President Jim L. Martin noted at a recent airports conference, “Our staff is encouraged to achieve industry ‘standards of performance.’ We have formed an organization dedicated to delivering a quality of service that is at the very top of what the airports industry requires.”

Industry certifications demonstrate that your provider is continuously working to meet and exceed your highest standards. When evaluating your service provider, take a moment to consider what certifications its employees have earned – it could make a real difference in how they perform.

ARINC Wins Technology & Support Contract to Continue Its Work at Montréal-Trudeau Airport

Since 2002, ARINC Managed Services has provided on-site maintenance and support to a number of airlines at the Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. Recently, ARINC was awarded a new contract to remain the primary provider of passenger systems and support at this airport.

Montréal-Trudeau is undergoing a major expansion and modernization to increase capacity and enhance passenger service.  Awarding the contract to ARINC is a vote of confidence in “the company's two-part approach – delivering the most advanced common-use technology, and supporting customers through a professionally certified managed services organization,” notes Mike Picco, ARINC Vice President, Airport Systems.

Under this contract, ARINC will increase the total workstations from 200 to 350, comprised of 331 check-in workstations and 72 new SelfServ™ check-in kiosks.  ARINC Managed Services will continue to serve the airport with an expanded IT maintenance and support program.

“We sought a partner willing to work within our business model to advance technology for all airline customers at Montréal–Trudeau,” stated Reginald Jean-Gilles, Director, Information Technology. “Based on our favorable experience with ARINC, we are confident they will be fully responsive to our needs throughout the new contract.”

"The Montréal CLUB was among the first airports to name ARINC’s Managed Services group to provide on-site system maintenance and support," stated Jim L. Martin, Vice President, ARINC Managed Services. “Their focus—like ours—has consistently been on customer satisfaction. We are proud to continue our work here, and to count Aéroports de Montréal among our premier customers.”
